STEVE,
Who is DOMINUS then, in Latin? Not that as a child you would have worried about that, of course.
Now Bach is a subject I enjoy reading about in the Forum, among others. I wonder if the music was a melange, would the arranger get royalties for the arrangement? Can't speak of the folms, never saw them except in excerpts.

Zulema,
I was laughing at myself all day about my thinking that KYRIE was Latin for lord, especially because I take pedantic pride in my ability to recite the hardest altar boy prayer: The Suscipiat, which begins SUSCIPIAT DOMINUS SACRIFICIUM. I just never put two and two together until today. But how did the Greek ever get in there in the first place?

A similar thing of interest is that in the Catholic Bible, the last book is Apocalypse (Greek derivation), while in the Protestant Bible, it's Revelation (Latin derivation). Incidentally, apocalypse is "uncovering," and eucalyptus is "good covering."

Calypso="she who conceals." But that refers to the sea nymph with whom Odysseus stayed for seven years, and probably not the musical form.

Jews might recognize the line "hodu l'adonai ki tov, ki l'olam chasdo." It's 1 Chronicles 16:34, "O give thanks unto the LORD; for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever." It was the Septuagint translation from the Hebrew that was the source for kyrie eleison. Christe was added, of course.

Can you buy vuvuzelas at Tuzigoot?
Tuzigoot is Apache for "crooked water", from nearby Peck's Lake, a cutoff meander of the Verde River. Historically, it was built by the Sinagua people between 1125 and 1400 CE. Tuzigoot is the largest and best-preserved of the many Sinagua pueblo ruins in the Verde Valley.
Just wondering,
Popeye

In the "Sanctus" part of the mass, two Hebrew words are "embedded," Hosanna and Sabaoth ("hosts" = "armies"). Here is a teenage version of one of the most glorious music compositions ever. If you want, try some of the other youtube alternatives, including Jussi Bjorling's English version (with "Sabaoth" as is) and a Japanese orchestra and choir.

I have never heard of BRUNONIAN, but it seems to me that YALIE should be Y-ALIEN. Fun easy puzzle for me. Surprisingly, I got the Netherlands airport or whatever it is quite quickly even though I did not know it. Several lucky guesses on what might have otherwise been a tough center. Steve

latin 101 ?
"obsconde obeseri illigitimo ! " - is what the pope said to buddy hackett, who mentioned to the pope after a tour of the vatican, that if the church would sell just one of the paintings it owned it could feed all the starving children, roughly translated it means "get out of here, you fat bastard"
anyway be well
frankD
made another saturday undoable by filling augratin for PARAFFIN and wanting ALBINO for rarest rhino instead of uninked embossed stamp - huh ? (well rex didn't get it either) i dont mind if the clues mis-direct but that was a stretch as were the clues for RAZE and INN

FRANK,
Definitely agree about INN. They may have been thinking of the Canterbury Tales. But it wasn't difficult, so... RAZE seemed to be the only thing that fit, though there must be more. Jeopardy has had this kind of clue as a category.

Fay,
That's what everyone's been saying. My daughters have been reminiscing in back and forth e-mails.
