Matthew Sewell’s Newsday crossword, Saturday Stumper — Eric’s review
8:30 MDT: Please patient, Stumper fans. I’ve gotten little sleep this week and unlike last week (when I beat the amazing pannonica by a few seconds), this one looks to be a bear.
More later (unless my head explodes). While I’m waiting for that inevitability, I’ll say that I recognize Matthew Sewell’s name, but haven’t done enough of his grids to really know what to expect when I see his byline. I’ll know better next time.
UPDATE 1:44 MDT: Not happening this afternoon unless a miracle occurs. Sorry. We need to be somewhere at 3:00 and cook dinner when we get home.
I was so out of it this morning that I didn’t realize I hadn’t posted my first stab. Here’s an updated grid. Chip, chip, chip. (As of 2:00, you can add Mia HAMM at the top center. And take out VAMPIRES.)
I’m avoiding the Fiend comments because I passionately hate spoilers and I expect Seth, Blue Iris and a few other Stumper fans finished this hours ago. Congratulations, guys! Have a beer on me! (Really. Our favorite brewpub here has a chalkboard full of names showing that John Doe bought X beers for Jane Roe. We love that place; I just wish its menu were a bit more expansive.)
