Matt here — quick self-post since joon is spear-fishing in Belize (I believe, perhaps erroneously).
Eight HANDs in the grid last week; as suggested by the clue at 68-Across, play a game of two-hand touch football by highlighting all the letters that touch two of the HANDs. They form APPLAUSE, which is another form of “two-hand touch.”
It felt harder than a week 1 to me, right up until the penny dropped back into week 1 territory.
I agree with Amy. Harder than a typical week 1…until it wasn’t.

Now that’s what I call a good Week 1. Not immediately obvious, but fast and easy, clever idea, fresh technique, and apt answer. I especially like the two-hand touch leading to applause.
